THE FIELDS ARE ALIVE

THE FIELDS ARE ALIVE

We have been in a drought for the last two and half years in Tamil Nadu, India 2014 being the worst year thus far.  The rivers are dried completely as is the lakes.  Where the water once flowed so beautifully is now filled with bushes, tiger grass and has become the feeding place for cows and goats.   The bustling children enjoying the water as they splashed and played has become a desert silence.  The clothes being washed and spread out to dry are no more there is nothing but a wasteland.  The various migrating birds whom spent their winters in Southern India are but a fleeting memory of watching them and their antics while taking photographs.  The cat fish that were seemingly bigger than life are now gone and passed away.

Suffering is never ending for those whom depend on water for their livelihood from the local shop keeper to the farmer.  These farmers lost three planting seasons of rice.  The stillness of the fields that one could see in the process of flooding them and ox drawn plows to prepare the fields for planting also became the place for the herders to bring their goats.

The effect on families for daily living was a hardship for women carrying water jugs to get two jugs of water per family.   Water was not being sent to wells of homes forcing families who could afford 1,800 Rupees for a tanker to bring water and fill the wells.

My commentary:

Global Warming is beyond me but the basics I believe.  The gift of the world from God the Father to us has been abused by mankind’s selfishness, wants and desires, which made good stewardship towards the gift of God the Father a shambles thus Global Warming.

God the Father is merciful and hears the cries of His people who suffer and the cries of despair from the farmers, shopkeepers and common man soften His compassion to pity for the suffering while blowing the clouds over the drought area, filled with rain, halted them there and open them up releasing the rain. His generosity has made it possible for the water to come and flood the patty fields once more allowing the last planting season to produce a crop.  The fields are now dotted with the colorful saris of the women in the fields, the men plowing once more and the Egrets bring a sea of white that feast on small frogs, snails etc. which, are brought to the surface during the plowing.

God the Father brings hope in His gift of compassion no matter the sins of man and how we take care of the gift of this world.
