DAYS
GONE BY
I am a baby boomer and my post war childhood was free,
playful, and full of love. My biggest decisions
rested mostly on playtime and what’s there to eat. My family of five consisted of my parents, me
(the oldest) and two brothers. My
paternal grandparents lived on our three acre farm in a small home of their
own.
My father worked two jobs, my grandpa took care of the
farm, including chickens, a calf, Sam the lamb, two hunting beagles, a few goats
and a huge garden. My grandmother (in
picture with me) and mom sold roasting chickens, eggs and preserved the produce
from the garden for winter consumption. Life was simple!
My childhood was worry free therefore, I was afford such
carefree times of snowy winters of building snowmen, snowball fights and a host
of activities the imagination of a child to produce soaked wet clothes, red
face and runny nose. Summer’s allowed us children to run in the rain on a hot
summer day with undies on, bar of soap in hand to take an outdoor shower. I can still smell fresh cut grass and I
remember the vegetable bus came by where we could take our pennies to buy
bubble gum and candy. Then there was the
Autumn Season of beautiful colors as the leaves on the trees that were so
vibrant fell. Nothing said autumn better
than piles of color leaves that raked into a heap after falling from the trees calling
us kids dive into it. We also would
climb up the pear trees and bomb each other with pears much to the elder’s
warnings.
We lived a middle class life when families went to church
together, always gathered for holidays, special celebrations and Sunday dinners
with my maternal grandparents. Nothing disturbed
the peace and joy of my childhood and for this I am eternally thankful for
those days to God.
COMMENTARY: This world
now with all its modern technology, education, and the governments collectively
(so called) wisdom cannot protect children.
The atrocities are beyond the scope of being tolerable if not
sickening. Children are raped, pimped, prostituted,
on drugs, drinking, committing suicides, abandon, and thrown away easily. Children are used as bonded labor, underage labor
not to mention domestic help boarding on slavery as with the others. The life of a child in many cases has no
value but to be used by the evil hearts of society.
Many children live perilous lives connected with war,
religious persecution, and obsessive regimes.
Many children are in flight, homeless, hungry and malnutrition. Many are denied any education, health care
and basic human rights.
Pope Francis declared starting in December 2015 the Year of
Mercy. Perhaps this would be a good time
to be merciful to these vulnerable precious children and see what we can do to
set these captives free.
My life is a revolutionary for change and a protest against
the hell that prevails against children through the evil nature of society.
I come to you Lord with empty hands, poor health use what I
am to liberate these children for YOU are strong where I am NOT.
