LONELINESS

LONELINESS

“I’m lonely.  And I’m lonely in some horrible deep way and for a flash of an instant, I can see just how lonely, and how deep feelings runs.  And it scares the shit out of me to be this lonely because it seems catastrophic.”  Auguesten Burroughs, Dry

Loneliness is the by-product of rejection.  Living a life of loneliness distresses the heart, crushes the spirit and more often than not leads to depression. Depression brings a darkness within the soul condemning the life of the soul to utter destruction and possibly death.  Although it is said many times an act of failed suicide is for attention however, it is more likely a cry for help.  It is a staggering to be left to live in the state of loneliness.  Nevertheless, for some the life of rejection and loneliness is more than one can bear, can be an indication to suicide.

FYI:  The following accounts I know of first hand:

The woman in the photograph was living on the streets of India in ill health, confused, dirty, and malnourished when she was found and bought to a hospital.  She was given medical treatment and an NGO was called.  Her situation warranting this action was placed at St. Joseph Hospices, which takes those who are without any family and provides them with food, clothing and protective environment.  The hospices run by a Catholic priest, Father Thomas has on staff all who is needed to meet the needs of the rejected and lonely.

"Loneliness and the feeling of being unwanted is the most terrible poverty." Mother Teresa

This second account happen when I was in the emergency room getting treatment several years ago.  An elderly woman who shared the room with me was involved in a minor accident the details are sketchy, which I gather from the conversation she had with her medical attendants.  This woman drove herself to the hospital and she was walker dependent.  After receiving her treatment she was discharged and she asks the nurse how will I get home and was told that she drove to the hospital and she will drive home.  It seems like it never occurred to the woman to have the nurse call someone because there was no one except her loneliness.

“Having someone wonder where you are when you don’t come home at night is a very old human need.”  Margaret Mead

The third account comes from the time I was a nurse at a nursing home where many elderly are taken where loneliness and rejection is felt deeply.  I was in charge of 30 patients and of those about 5 got regular visits from family and friends and about 10 total for holidays.  These patients try and bond with their care takers out of desperate need of their loneliness and rejection
“Life without love is a lonely path.”  Eveth Colley

The tell-tale sign of loneliness can be seen in the eyes of lost despair.  The eyes moist from the many tears and blank.  Memories for some thankfully forgotten and for others another means of suffering in their loneliness.
Loneliness a killer is easily remedy if we all share just a little part of ourselves to those who suffer this isolation.
