COMPUNCTION
COMPUNCTION
Lent is upon us with the start of Ash Wednesday today. This is the time for me to commit my Life in Christ
and surrender myself to His direction moving forward in my spiritual life as I
spend time in penance and reparation. It
is a reflecting time of how my year was and the changes I want to make. I push all the unnecessary “things” of mind,
body and spirit that take up time and space from God and I recommit to filling
these useless space with wanting to deepen my “love”, spend more time in
“prayer” and “serve” Him as I “serve” others.
COMPUNCTION: Is a
word not commonly used anymore it means a deep and lasting sorrow for sin. It is not meant to bring us to a depression
but aware of sin, its damage to our soul, the wall that builds up between us
and God, and the suffering sin causes to society. We have to know that sin is death physical
and spiritual we bask in as a result of turning from God.
When COMPUNCTION fills your heart and soul the bondage of
the world loses its hold on you and becomes distasteful. Your eyes open to the pure fact we are aliens
in this world on our way home to live in the bosom of God’s love and
grace. There is nothing in the world
that will give us pure joy and happiness no matter how much we think, if I had
this or that I will be happily satisfied.
We must understand in this world everything is fleeting and when we die
it is left behind to turn to dust as we return to dust.
COMPUNCTION is a grace from God that lets us see sin for
what it really is DESTRUCTION and whatever pleasures we think we gleam is a lie
and the truth of the matter is, it will destroy us for all eternity in the end,
a reality. COMPUNCTION opens our eyes to our faults, God’s goodness and our
commitment to do better. We then abandon
our faults and trade them for the opposite, “His virtues.”
COMPUNCTION is an action we willingly take as we seek God
through His Word and the desire to forgo a sinfully life. ENTRUST COMPUNCTION to the will and grace of
God to take charge of it as we journey closer to Him in this life and finally
home with Him for all ETERNITY.
The word COMPUNCTION forces us to think about our sorrow
and the course of our actions. The word SORRY
has become over used, glib with no regrets attach to it.
