MISSIONARIES OF CHARITY

MISSIONARIES OF CHARITY

Superior General of the Missionaries of Charity Sister Mary Prema decided not to continue the adoption services because of the new Indian government guidelines.  These guidelines go against the belief, children up for adoption should be adopted by married couples’ a father and mother if you will.  There is also the picking of a child from a group of six when the applications online is presented.  Sister Mary Prema believes that a child born is not known as should a child adopted.

The Missionaries of Charity is run by the guidelines set forth by its foundress Mother Teresa, which in their view will not be changed.  It is suggested by an India moderator on NDTV show THE BUCK STOPS HERE that the Missionaries of Charity views should change with the times.  The moderator worked hard at trying to cause a ruckus towards the sisters with her guest however, the guest being often of a different opinion of the sisters spoke with respect.  All agreed and finally convinced the moderator the selection process of the pictures put forth by the government is flawed.

The moderator kept referring this topic as a controversy IT WAS NOT, not at least as far as Sister Prema was concerned for the guidelines were not going to be a debate but a matter of fact the adoption program is closed.  There would be NO caving in to the beliefs of the government with the Missionaries of Charity.

MY COMMENTARY:

India news, moderators and paneled guests for the most part love to debate and which, ends up in a screaming/yelling match.  The topic rarely sees a resolve or meeting of minds because of the muddling of the waters on the original subject.  Debates ended up getting off the subject at hand to be replace with past history of opposing views that has nothing to do with the debate.  I cannot tell you how many times what the USA does or not do finds itself thrown in the mix.  I can venture to guess the USA knows nothing about the debates on Indian TV or wants too; there are too many bigger issues to contend with.

The adoption of pick and choose from six pictures will leave some children with never being adopted.  The history of India’s way of looking at children are boys come first, then girls and the lighter the better, blue eyes a big plus and please no physical flaws not even of the slightest caliber and let me not elaborate on the caste of the child.  For many the physical comes before the look of love.

I relate this true story I complimented a mother on her teen age daughter as being very pretty and the mother said to me, “Thank you, but she is dark.”

Sister Prema, handle this issue with grace and dignity, though the NDTV moderator did not do the same and the lawmakers of these new guidelines came up with a sham of a policy.

NOT EVERYTHING IS A CONTROVERSY OR AN ISSUE.
